Artist Statement

My practice is rooted in an exploration of the fragmented and unpredictable nature of human emotions. I am fascinated by the ways in which feelings—shameless, seemingly misplaced, and often deemed taboo—reveal themselves in everyday life. I focus on emotional states that feel out of place or culturally dissonant: joy, euphoria, or a sense of freedom during moments of grief, the uncontrollable laughter that emerges in the wrong spaces, like at a funeral or in an elevator, or tears that fall during times of celebration. These emotional contradictions form the core of my work.

My creative process is deeply intuitive, and I find that I cannot begin without first reaching a specific state of mind. I sit in silence, pulling fragmented emotions from deep within my unconscious, sometimes aided by sensory triggers—herbs, textures, scents, and tastes—that connect me to the context I’m working within. Only when I am fully immersed in the feeling do I stand before the canvas, sketching early shapes and lines as I hold the complete image in my mind. I translate this internal landscape into large figurative works using soft pastels and oil paints, mediums that allow for an organic release of my emotions.

Through my work, I seek to freeze these passing emotions, capturing them in forms imbued with symbolism and esoteric meaning. Drawing on my background in illustration and my life in London, I weave together figures, natural elements, and familiar objects to craft narratives that are both mythological and deeply personal. Visual observation of my surroundings plays a critical role in how I depict these emotional experiences, turning everyday objects into vessels of symbolic meaning.

Additionally, my practice is informed by my ongoing interest in esotericism and the philosophy of semiotics. These influences shape the symbolic language I use to explore how we, as humans, communicate and understand our inner worlds.
